About Us
Georgina Mackenzie is a Masters-trained and registered Play Therapist based in Anglesea, Victoria. She works with children and families through Humanistic Play Therapy, Filial Therapy, Sandtray Therapy, and Learn To Play interventions. Her therapeutic approach draws on neuroscience, attachment theory, and developmental psychology to meet each child at their emotional and developmental level.
Georgina grew up on Victoria’s Surf Coast and now lives in Anglesea with her husband and daughter. Alongside her therapeutic work, she is also a potter and painter. Her creative background shapes her sensitivity to the symbolic, expressive, and relational nature of play, where meaning and healing often emerge beyond words.
With prior studies in psychology and a lifelong interest in the arts, Georgina was drawn to the systemic and intergenerational healing that unfolds through play therapy and family work. She believes meaningful change occurs when the whole family system is supported with understanding, compassion, and practical tools for connection.
Her approach is neurodiversity-affirming, trauma-informed, and centred on the idea that when a child’s inner world is met with empathy and consistency, healing naturally follows.
The Meaning Behind “Seabird”
The name Seabird was inspired by the song Seabird by the Alessi Brothers. The song explores themes of longing, isolation, and the human desire for connection. The seabird becomes a symbol of resilience and the instinctive pull to return home after being lost at sea.
For Georgina, this imagery reflects the therapeutic process—the body and mind’s natural movement toward balance, safety, and relationship when given the right space and tools. Therapy, like the seabird’s flight, is both a search and a return: a journey between exploration and homecoming.
Seabird Counselling and Play Therapy embodies this process, offering a safe harbour where children and families can reconnect with themselves, each other, and their innate capacity to heal.
